Zvezda Shipyard Releases More Than 20 Million Chum Salmon Fry into Rivers of Primorye

29 April 2021

The Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex has begun the next stage of measures for artificial reproduction of aquatic biological resources - the release of young salmonid fish into rivers of Primorsky Krai.

The company released more than 20 million fries into the water bodies of Khasansky District: the Barabashevka, Poima, and Ryazanovka rivers. Young chum salmon was raised at Glavrybvod fish hatcheries.

Zvezda Shipyard began implementing a set of measures for the conservation of aquatic biological resources, which include artificial reproduction of hydrobionts, during the construction of the enterprise. These activities help to increase the population and biological diversity preservation of valuable fish species in Primorsky Krai and the Far Eastern Fisheries Basin.

The total number of young chum salmon released by Zvezda Shipyard this year will exceed 30 million specimens. The artificial stocking of the Kalinka and Sokolniki rivers in the Sakhalin region is planned in the near future.

Today the total number of young chum salmon released into the rivers of Primorsky Krai and Sakhalin Oblast by Zvezda Shipyard amounts to more than 78 million specimens.

Note for Editors:

The Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex is established at the Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Centre (FESRC) by the Rosneft-led consortium, upon the instruction of the President of Russia.

The shipyard project comprises launched and operating objects, such as the hull production facility, painting cabinets, and open heavy outfitting berth, as well as second-train objects under construction, such as the dry dock, full-cycle production shops, and shops for offshore marine equipment.

The Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex is designed for the production of large-capacity vessels, ice-class vessels with a displacement of up to 350,000 tonnes, special-purpose vessels, and other marine equipment.

Priority is given to the development of social infrastructure in Bolshoi Kamen and the construction of apartment blocks for employees. Fifteen houses in two neighbourhoods have already been finished and lived in, and five more are on the way. In general, by 2023, it is planned to build some 5,000 flats and meet the employees’ housing demands completely.
